Cheltenham Betting Hopefuls Reunited
Tony McCoy and Denman have been reunited for the first time since their acrimonious parting of company at the third fence from home in the Aon Chase at Newbury last month. McCoy was saddled up at trainer Paul Nicholls’ Somerset yard on Thursday as the horse and jockey pair went out for a round of schooling ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Owner Harry Findlay gave Denman a “9 out of 10” for his efforts but sounded less than confident when assessing his horse’s chances of beating Kauto Star for a second time and reclaiming the title that he won in 2008. Findlay claimed that “it will take a phenomenal performance for anything to beat Kauto Star.”
The majority of punters seem to agree with Findlay’s assessment as there have been few backers of Denman since that race at Newbury. He is now available to back at 4/1 with Boylesports whilst Kauto Star is the red-hot 8/11 favourite with Paddy Power.
