Bolger Heads Cross Country Cheltenham Betting
Enda Bolger will saddle a total of five runners at this year’s Cheltenham Cross Country in a race that the trainer has made his own since its inception in 2005. Bolger’s horses have won four of the five Gelnfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chases and this year he once again has the two front runners in the betting.
Garde Champetre is a 9/4 shot with Betfair (Go to Betfair ») to make it a hat-trick of successes whilst last year’s runner-up L’Ami is priced at 7/2 with Sportingbet (Go to Sportingbet ») . 2007 winner Heads On The Ground will also run but at 33/1 he isn’t given much chance of repeating that success by the bookmakers. Freney’s Well and Drombeag both at around the 20/1 mark make up the trainer’s quintet.
Despite Bolger’s domination of the race there will be stiff opposition from other stables specifically the Henry de Bromhead trained Sizing Europe and Philip Hobbs’s old timer Monkerhostin. The latter returned to winning ways last month at Sandown and on that performance looks the most likely to challenge the two market leaders if he is comfortable with the race’s unique obstacles. However, it is difficult to see this race slipping from Bolger’s expert grasp and we can expect to see the familiar green and yellow hoops in the winner’s enclosure at the conclusion of this race.
