Cheltenham 2010 Champion Hurdle Betting
It has already been a chaotic betting market over the last few months so it will be no surprise that on the day of the race the Champion Hurdle betting takes a number of twists and turns before the off. Uncertainty surrounding Binocular and Solwhit’s Cheltenham participation has already seen each horse trade at prices of 999/1 and 30/1 respectively in the Betfair (Go to Betfair ») antepost market, and with many of the contenders apparently so evenly matched we can expect to see a number of fluctuations throughout today.
Go Native is the clear market leader at 9/2 with Ladbrokes (Go to Ladbrokes ») but four horses – Punjabi, Khyber Kim, Solwhit and Binocular – are all vying for second favouritism at around the 7/1 mark. However, Celestial Halo is the most notable market mover of the morning so far having been trimmed in from 10/1 to 9/1 with many of the online betting firms whilst Medermit has gone the other way from 10/1 to 11/1 in places.
Hardy Eustace and Istabraq are the only horses to win back to back Cheltenham Champion Hurdle’s in the last 20 years but if Punjabi can once again get his nose home in front then he would join that list of illustrious champions. He hasn’t exactly set the world alight since last year’s victory but his 22/1 price tag for the 2009 Champion Hurdle showed that those who underestimate are foolish to do so.
