Madison Du Berlais Carries Top Weight In Grand National Betting

Connections to Madison du Berlais are facing a dilemma ahead of next week's Grand National at Aintree. Do they head to the world's most prestigious race where their horse must carry top weight and is a 50/1 shot with Skybet (Go to Skybet »)? Or do they chose to reignite rivalries with Denman at the Scottish Grand National in Ayr a couple of weeks later where the horse would carry just 10st 1lb and go off as one of the bookmaker favourites?

Clearly they'd have a better chance of winning and/or collecting prize money in Scotland, but the other side of the coin is that they (the owners) may never have another horse capable of running in the Grand National. Jockey Tom Scudamore is also left in limbo as if Madison du Berlais decides not to run in the Grand National he could then find himself without a ride for the big race, the richest in the National Hunt season.

Big Fella Thanks still heads the Grand National Betting and is currently available at a best price of 8/1 with Blue Square (Go to Blue Square »), whilst last year's winner Mon Mome is second favourite at 12/1 with Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») after finishing a respectful third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last month.
