Tony McCoy To Ride Dont Push It In Grand National
Tony McCoy is swaying toward Don't Push It for his Grand National mount on this coming Saturday. It was thought that the 14-time champion jockey may opt for Can't Buy Time but the current ground conditions are forcing McCoy to have a slight rethink.
The decision, as for any jockey, is a big one, but perhaps more so for horseracing's most decorated jockey than any other rider as this remains the one race that has eluded him throughout his career. McCoy openly admits that if he were to end his career without winning National Hunt's most prestigious race then it would be seen as a disappointment, especially to himself.
Both horses are part of the JP McManus/Jonjo O'Neill team and both can be backed at odds of 25/1 with Sportingbet (Go to Sportingbet »); expect whichever one McCoy chooses to shorten considerably ahead of the race. Old foe Ruby Walsh will mount the Grand National Betting favourite Big Fella Thanks at odds of 9/1 with Betfair (Go to Betfair ») whilst last year's winner Mon Mome is the 13/1 second favourite.
Earlier today 65 runners kept their name in the hat at the six-day declaration stage although a maximum of 40 will go under starter's orders. Blue Square (Go to Blue Square ») are offering odds of 11/4 that more than 16 runners will complete the course, 5/2 that between 13 and 15 runners will finish and 11/4 that it will be less than 10. But most will just be keeping fingers crossed for a fatality-free Grand National year.
