Arsenal Injury List Lengthens

As if Arsenal's injury list wasn’t already bad enough, Alex Song has now been ruled out of their crucial second-leg match against Barcelona tonight. The Gunners will already be without Cesc Fabregas, Andrey Arshavin and William Gallas as well as long term absentee Robin van Persie. Now the injury to Song, who was expected to deputise in the centre of defence, means that manager Arsene Wenger could be forced to call upon the services of veteran defender Sol Campbell.

Barcelona also have a number of key absentees ahead of the clash at the Nou Camp. Defensive pair Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique are both suspended after being carded in the first-leg at The Emirates, Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked up an injury in the warm-up of their weekend game against Athletic Bilbao and Andres Iniesta faces a late fitness test.

The first leg ended in an unlikely 2-2 score line after Arsenal were completely played off the park. But that is now in the past and the bare fact is that The Gunners are very much still in the tie. However, the Catalan giants remain firm favourites to progress to the semi-final with Stan James (Go to Stan James ») going 1/7 on them qualifying, whilst Ladbrokes (Go to Ladbrokes ») are as big as 8/1 on an unlikely away win.
