General Election Betting
So Gordon Brown has met with Her Majesty the Queen and set May 6 as the date for the UK General Election 2010. With the polls published just before the announcement showing that the Conservative party have only the slightest of advantages in public opinion you could be forgiven for thinking that this may be a close run affair. However, the betting markets tell a different story, a story which is usually extremely accurate and in fact Betfair’s politics markets are often used by top analysts to assess how their campaigns are being perceived.
David Cameron will enjoy the look of those betting markets where the Conservatives are as short as 1.2 (1/5) with Betfair (Go to Betfair ») to win the most seats, with Labour at 6.0 (5/1) and the Liberal Democrats at 250/1. But that is not all that you can bet on with the online bookmakers, you can bet on the winning party in each and every constituency across the country, the overall majority and the voter turnout among many others.
Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») even have their own election betting website covering every conceivable angle of all parties election campaign trails and the ensuing results. There you can read political blogs and press releases and also read through the news archives to keep tabs on what is going on.
They say that a day is a long time in politics and you can be sure that there will be a few twists and turns along the way, but at present Mr Cameron is the heavy betting favourite to be our next Prime Minister.
