Grand National Betting Murphy Opts For Comply Or Die
David Pipe’s stable jockey Timmy Murphy has opted to partner Comply or Die ahead of The Package in this year’s Grand National at Aintree on Saturday.
Hardly a surprising decision from Murphy given Comply or Die followed up his 2008 Grand National victory with a second place finish in 2009. A result of that is that he must shoulder 11st 5lb in this year’s race, just 5lb fewer than top weight Madison du Berlais. The Package will carry a comparatively paltry 10st 7lb and will be ridden by Graham Lee; both will wear the familiar blue and green colours of David Johnson.
The result of Murphy’s decision is that Comply or Die has shortened to around the 20/1 mark, at which he is available with Victor Chandler (Go to VCBet »), and The Package has drifted marginally to a best price of 16/1 with Skybet (Go to Skybet ») . Although David’s father Martin Pipe trained Minnehoma to victory in 1994 he himself has only the one training triumph – Comply or Die in 2008 – to his name; William Hill (Go to William Hill ») are offering 10/1 that he trains this year’s winner.
Big Fella Thanks remains the one that the bookies believe they all have to beat, he is the firm 7/1 favourite with the majority of bookmakers.
