General Election First Debate Betting
In true Paddy Power style, they are the first to chalk up betting odds on a number of issues in the first live election debate. Odds on who will win the debate – David Cameron is evens, Nick Clegg is 2/1 and Gordon Brown 5/2 – is admittedly a standard market which I am sure many other online bookmakers will follow suit by offering, however, they also have a number of specials relating to the debate which are in the true style of a Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») special.
They are offering betting on the first man to ‘noticeably perspire’ settling bets on the first party leader to be shown with either perspiration on his face or visible sweat patches under his arms. They obviously have Mr Clegg down as a sweaty man as he is the 11/10 favourite, then Cameron is next at 6/4 and the Prime Minister a 3/1 shot.
Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») are also providing odds on what will be the first election debate rule to be broken. ‘Applauding’ and ‘Booing’ head the market at odds of 11/8 and 7/4 respectively, then ‘Heckling’ and ‘Cheering’ at 4/1 and 9/2. But the most rewarding of bets would be to back someone to remove all their clothes and streak across the stage, that is a 50/1 shot and would certainly liven up proceedings.
The first election debate will be at 8:30pm on April 15 and will be screened by ITV.
