General Election TV Debate Betting

The bookmakers are whipping up a storm ahead of tonight’s historic television debate between the three major political party leaders. Almost all of the major online betting firms are offering odds on a variety of weird and wonderful scenarios that may or may not occur in tonight’s debate which is to be held in Manchester and screened on ITV.

Subsequent to the debate there will be a poll to determine which leader has come out on top. David Cameron is the bookmaker’s favourite at 6/4 with Betfred (Go to Betfred ») to be that man, whilst Nick Clegg is a 2/1 shot and Gordon Brown 100/30. Cameron’s favouritism spurns from his background in public relations and generally confident demeanour.

The TV debates are expected to attract viewers of around the 10million mark and Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») incorporate that figure in their 8,000,000 – 11,000,000 band which is given odds of 13/8, whilst fewer than 8,000,000 is a 5/2 shot. You can also bet with Paddy power on which will be the first cliché to be mentioned by one of the leaders; ‘Jobs’ and ‘Britain’ are the 10/1 co-favourites with ‘Crime’, ‘Manifesto’ and ‘Afghanistan’ at 12/1.

Mr Cameron’s wardrobe man, or woman, could also make a few extra quid (although we are not suggesting any sort of betting scandal to follow the expenses scandal) by betting on the colour of tie which Cameron will wear at the debate. Blue is the unsurprising even money favourite with Ladbrokes (Go to Ladbrokes »), whilst a casual ‘I’m just a regular guy’ type statement of wearing no tie is at 10/1.

Best of all though is Coral (Go to Coral ») 100/1 on any leader appearing on stage with their flies undone.
