General Election Betting: Final Day

With less than 24 hours to go until the polling stations across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom open their doors, the odds are stacked heavily in favour of David Cameron’s conservative party. However, according to the betting, a hung parliament remains a very distinct possibility.

After Nick Clegg’s inspiring performance in the first of the televised debates, which subsequently saw the Liberal Democrats (to get the most seats) matched at as low as 15/1 on Betfair, their valiant campaign appears to have come to an end as the rarely-wrong Betfair (Go to Betfair ») political betting markets now have them as 150/1 outsiders.

In the same market it is the Conservative party who look to have it all but wrapped up at odds of 1/8, with Labour languishing, as they are in the polls, at 8/1.

And so it is the possibility of a hung parliament which is the cause for much concern for Mr Cameron. Odds of 4/6 with Betfred (Go to Betfred ») and many other online bookmakers suggest that a hung parliament is the most likely of scenarios and with odds of 12/5 being offered on their being a second election before the calendar year is concluded, we could be heading for the polling stations again much sooner than some might expect.
