Tiger Woods Shuns Links Open Practice
World number one Tiger Woods will not partake in any further links course practice this week ahead of next week’s Open Championship at St Andrews. The American would traditionally involve himself in some preparation on Irish links courses ahead of professional golf’s oldest competition but will instead travel back to his home to spend time with his family.
However, Tiger will not simply waltz up to the first tee on Thursday morning and set off into the abyss. He will arrive in Fife, Scotland on Sunday or Monday of next week and be involved in practice rounds at the home of golf throughout the beginning of the week.
When asked about his recent slump in form – he finished in 46th place in the recent AT&T National in Pennsylvania – he responded “I drove it great last week, I just putted terrible,” a problem which he must address for the notoriously tricky St Andrews greens.
The bookmakers are a little unsure as to how to treat Woods ahead of this year’s open with Sportingbet
going as big as 6/1 and William Hill as short as 7/2 on a player who has won on his two previous visits to St Andrews.
