Next Fulham Manager Betting: No Jol

Oh o, spaghettio! The betting markets on the next Fulham manager have imploded. As punters went to bed last night it looked for all money that former Tottenham manager Martin Jol would return to the Premier League to take over from Roy Hodgson at Craven Cottage. However, those backing him at odds of 1.05 (1/20) on Betfair will be feeling a little sheepish this morning after learning the news that he has now agreed “in principle” to stay at Ajax.

In a dramatic last minute twist it appears that Jol may have been using Fulham’s advances to strengthen his own position in Amsterdam, and will now stay on under the proviso that he is given more funds for transfers.

The next Fulham manager betting market has been one of the most volatile that we have seen for a long, long time. No fewer than five managers – Jol, Sven Goran Eriksson, Alan Curbishley, Lee Clark and Dave Jones – have been backed at odds of 2/1 or less.

Now, it seems, neither punters nor bookmakers know quite what to do. All bookmakers had suspended their markets on the assumption that Jol’s appointment was a mere formality, and at the time of writing only William Hill and Ladbrokes have re-opened betting. Both make Dave Jones the 2/1 favourite, whilst neither are discounting Jol just yet and still have him as a 5/2 chance.
