Premier League Transfer Rumours 28 July

After a quiet Tuesday the papers are back in full swing with their Premier League transfer rumour mill...

Manchester City;
Of course Manchester City are at the centre of the majority of the day’s transfer gossip. They are believed to be leading the race to sign Benfica defender David Luiz, who is reported to be available for £33million, but could be ready to give up on their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder James Milner, with the two clubs unable to agree a fee.
Players being linked with a move away from the club include Craig Bellamy, Jo, Roque Santa Cruz and Stephen Ireland as Roberto Mancini looks to trim his squad ahead of the new season.

Liverpool;
Roy Hodgson seems to be adhering to a policy of signing home-grown players as he bids to catapult Liverpool back into the top four. Luke Young is reported to be following in the footsteps of Joe Cole with Maxi Rodriguez said to be on his way out.

Arsenal;
Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in German defender Per Mertesacker who could be available for around £10million from Werder Bremen. Arsenal will be looking for extra cover at the back after Sol Campbell opted for a move to Newcastle this week.
It is also being reported that Wenger will turn to Italian stopper Federico Marchetti to solve his goalkeeping crisis.

Tottenham;
‘Sky Sources’ are this morning reporting that spurs have had a bid turned down for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker.
