US PGA Championship Betting
For the first time that I can remember, we go into a major championship in which Tiger Woods is involved and is not the betting favourite to win. Despite hanging on to his world number one status his form hit an all time low when finishing 18 over par at last week’s Bridgestone Invitational raising serious questions about the fragility of his mental state.
The result is that Phil Mickelson has now been made the US PGA Championship betting favourite at odds of 14.0 on Betfair. Tiger is a 15.0 chance with the same firm whilst Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington head the European charge at odds of 19.0 and 25.0 respectively.
Harrington looks like he could be hitting top form just in time for this year’s US PGA Championship, a title that he won back in 2008 when he was really on top of his game. If he can just improve his driving accuracy then he looks like he could be a very good value bet at Whistling Straits this week.
At the bigger prices Retief Goosen has been putting some good rounds together and can be backed at odds of 40.0 and I also like the look of Dustin Johnson at odds of 55.0. He has been in the mix in a number of big tournaments this year, although there are question marks about whether he has the bottle after folding like an origami expert in the final round of the US Open.
