Harbinger Retired from Racing
The official best Flat horse in the world, Harbinger, has been retired from racing with immediate effect.
Following his brilliant victory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Harbinger was made favourite for the forthcoming Judmonte International Stakes at York and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. However, after being taken out on the gallops at Newmarket last Saturday he was reported lame and later diagnosed with a fracture of his near-fore cannon bone.
One of his owners, Harry Herbert, has since taken the decision to retire the colt from racing and is thankful that the injury was not fatal. Herbert went on to add ''Harbinger has given all concerned the ultimate thrill at the very highest level.”
Fame and Glory has now been made the favourite for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and is a best price 10/3 with William Hill. Whilst the Aidan O’Brien trained Rip van Winkle is set to go off as the 11/8 favourite with the same bookmaker for the Judmonte.
