Bellamy Set to Join Cardiff

Various media outlets – BBC and Skysports included – are reporting that they understand that Craig Bellamy will join his hometown club Cardiff City on loan. The Welsh striker had been told that he was surplus to requirements at Eastlands and wouldn’t be named in Roberto Mancini’s 25-man squad at the end of the month.

A host of Premier League clubs had been tracking the player who had hinted that he may even retire from football if he were left out of City’s squad. Sunderland, Tottenham, Everton and Fulham were all at one point or another reported to be interested in the player, but it appears that the 31-year-old will opt to take himself out of the Premier League limelight by moving to Cardiff.

Cardiff narrowly missed out on promotion last season after losing in the play-off final to Blackpool at Wembley. After retaining the services of the majority of their key players this summer they will be hoping that the addition of Bellamy can catapult them into an automatic promotion spot.

The Bluebirds can be backed at 11/1 with Totesport to win The Championship and 10/3 to gain promotion, by whatever means. Stan James are offering odds of 10/1 that Bellamy finishes the season as The Championship to scorer.
