European Ryder Cup Team Betting
Colin Montgomerie is facing a selection headache after Peter Hanson’s win at the Czech Open moved him into an automatic Ryder Cup position. As things stand Hanson is now one of the nine players who would qualify for automatic selection leaving top players Padraig Harrington, Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Paul Casey needing a wildcard pick to make the team.
Because Montgomerie has only three picks it now means that one of these four players will miss out on selection for the 2010 Ryder Cup. None of the quartet will be playing in this week’s Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles – the final event in which Ryder Cup points are available – as they concentrate on preparations for the FedEx cup in America.
Stan James have released betting odds on who will receive a wildcard from captain Montgomerie. According to them two-time Open Champion Harrington is almost assured of a place and can be backed at an accordingly short price of 1/33 to make the team, Just Rose is a 4/11 chance and Paul Casey 4/9 whilst Luke Donald is the most likely to miss out at the fractionally larger odds of 1/2 to be one of Monty’s picks.
