Arsenal Sign Sebastien Squillaci

The Gunners have wrapped up the signing of French international defender Sebastien Squillaci from Spanish side Sevilla.

The 30-year-old defender was in north London over the weekend undergoing a medical and Arsene Wenger has today confirmed that the signing is now complete. Squillaci will not be included in Saturday’s lunch time kick-off against Blackburn but has been signed in time to be included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad.

Squillaci began his career at Sporting Toulon before moving to AS Monaco after a handful of appearances. He was part of the Monaco squad which enjoyed an incredible run to the Champions League final in 2004 and subsequently moved to Lyon where he enjoyed a successful spell in winning the Ligue 1 title before moving to Sevilla.

In Squillaci Wenger has a born winner with undoubted experience at the highest level. Arsenal fans will be hoping that he can strike up a good understanding with Thomas Vermaelen and provide Arsenal with the solid defensive pairing that they have lacked for so long now.

Arsenal are 6/1 with Victor Chandler to win the Premier League and 16/1 to win the Champions League.
