England v Bulgaria Betting Preview
Today is day zero for Fabio Capello’s England. The fallout from the World Cup should now be pushed to one side, lessons (we hope) have been learned and a new look and youthful England side now set on their quest to first qualify for Euro 2012 then, perhaps, go on and win it.
An injury to Peter Crouch has helped Capello make a decision to go with Wayne Rooney as a loan striker supported on either side by Adam Johnson and the free-scoring Theo Walcott. Joe Hart will make his first competitive start in an England shirt –triggering a £500,000 pay-out from Manchester City to Shrewsbury – after his impressive start to the season and Steven Gerrard captains the side.
Capello’s headache comes in the centre of defence where he is without his two first choice players John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. It means that England are likely to start with the inexperienced duo of Phil Jagielka and Matthew Upson or Matt Dawson at the back.
Still, England should have enough to beat a Bulgaria side that are now without their most talented player after Dimitar Berbatov retired from international football. Victor Chandler offer odds of 1/3 on a home win, and a little tipple on Rooney to get the first goal at 14/5 could also prove shrewd.
