John Toshack to Quit as Wales Manager

Reports claim that John Toshack could be ready to step down as manager of the Wales national team in the next 48 hours. Pressure on the 61-year-old has mounted since Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Montenegro which left the Welsh Euro2012 qualifying campaign in tatters even at this embryonic stage.

Toshack has been at the helm of Welsh football for the past six years and has overseen a transitional period in which a lot of the nation’s experienced players have been replaced by up and coming talent. It was thought that this campaign would see those players come of age and a serious push for qualification was anticipated.

The Welsh FA have confirmed that Toshack has not yet resigned but with their next game not until next month he may see this as the right time to step down. It is believed that Toshack would stay on in a caretaker role if the FAW were not able to find a suitable replacement in time for next month’s qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

Wales are 20/1 with Totesport to qualify for Euro 2012.
