Brian Flynn Appointed Wales Caretaker Manager
Wales Under-21 manager Brian Flynn has been appointed as temporary successor to John Toshack as manger of the Welsh first team.
Flynn will take the reins for the forthcoming Euro2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland after Toshack stepped down as manager following six years in charge. Flynn and Toshack have worked closely in recent years and have taken great strides in redeveloping the Wales national team into a team for the future – the under-21 side only narrowly missed out on qualification for the European Championships.
The former Wrexham and Swansea manager is one of the favourites to take over from Toshack on a permanent basis and today’s announcement has only strengthened that likelihood. Flynn is 4/7 with Victor Chandler to be the next permanent Wales manager.
The only other manager that appears to be being considered is Chris Coleman. He can be backed at odds of 6/4. A lot will depend upon how Flynn gets on in these two crucial qualifiers in October.
