Lionel Messi Injury News
Hearts were in mouths throughout Catalonia at the sight of Lionel Messi being stretchered off in injury time of Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid. But they can breathe freely again now after it was announced today that the little Argentine should only miss two matches with a sprained ankle as the injury is not as serious as first thought.
Messi left the Vicente Calderon pitch in tears towards the end of the game which left many fearing the worst. But manager Pep Guardioal moved to ease fans’ worries after the game, saying: ''He'll be having more tests tomorrow, but in principle a break has been ruled out. He's injured and the doctors will tell us how he is.”
So, it means that Messi could be fit to play Rubin Kazan in the Champions League next week but it will be left up to Guardiola to determine his star player’s fitness.
Barcelona are one point behind great rivals Real Madrid at this embryonic stage of the season. They can be backed at odds of 4/5 to retain their La Liga title and at odds of 9/4, both with Betfred, to win the Champions League.
