Formula One Betting: Alonso Steals Initiative
Fernando Alonso has stolen the initiative in the race to become the 2010 Formula One World Champion. The Spaniard claimed first place in a rain soaked Korean Grand Prix to move 11 points clear of Mark Webber in the Drivers’ Championship table with just two races to go.
The safety car led the drivers round for the majority of the early part of the race. Then once the race began in earnest both Red Bull cars failed to cope with the conditions as first Webber then Sebastian Vettel crashed out. Lewis Hamilton did enough to secure second place and keep his world title dreams alive, he is now 21 points behind Alonso in the standings.
Jenson Button’s dream of retaining his world title is all but over after he failed to finish in the points and is 42 points behind the pace setter.
Alonso has become the first driver to move to odds-on favouritism in what has been an extremely competitive title race. He can now be backed at a best price of 1.77 on Betfair. Mark Webber is a 3.35 shot with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel at odds of 15.0 and 16.0 respectively with a lot of work to do.
