UK Eurovision Betting Odds Plummet
Odds on the United Kingdom entry winning this year’s Eurovision have shortened dramatically in recent weeks.
Boyband Blue have reformed in order to represent the UK at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest and having previously been quoted at odds of 40/1 for victory are now as short as 6/1 with bookmaker Stan James.
In recent years the UK has struggled to live up to its previous glories in the Eurovision. Partly, in some people’s opinions, because of political reasons but largely down to the fact that the UK entries have been dreadful. Andy Abraham anyone?
But there appears to be a buzz around this year’s entry as Blue, chosen internally by the BBC, will perform “I Can” in the finals in Dusseldorf in mid-May.
The French are currently the betting favourites and can be backed at odds of 5/1 with Estonia available to back at the same 6/1 price as the UK. Sweden are next at odds of 9/1 with Germany priced at 12/1 for back-to-back successes.
The first of two semi-finals will take place on 10 May 2011, the second will be on 12 May 2011 with the grand final to be held on 14 May 2011.
