McLaren car "not fast enough"

McLaren officials have confirmed that they are struggling to produce a fast car ahead of the Formula One season opener.Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton will begin the defence of his title when he lines up for the team in Melbourne on Sunday March 29th.But with just over two weeks to go, the Briton was the slowest around the track during testing at Barcelona earlier this week.Team principal Martin Whitmarsh explained that it is struggling to incorporate new aerodynamic features and engineers are working to resolve the issue ahead of the first Grand Prix of 2009.And Norbert Haug, motorsport boss at engine partner Mercedes, added: "The car feels good - that is what our drivers say. However, we are currently definitely not fast enough, not competitive enough to aim for victories."Hamilton is currently 3/1 favourite to retain his crown, having become the sport's youngest-ever champion in 2008, but those odds could go out if performance does not improve.
