Fota rejects F1 proposals

A meeting between the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association (Fota) on Monday has failed to reconcile arguments about financial restrictions for next year's Formula One (F1) World Championship. According to the FIA, its regulations were not even discussed as Fota refused to open a dialogue on the subject. "The meeting could not achieve its purpose of comparing the FIA's rules with the Fota proposals with a view to finding a common position" the organisation said.Financial propositions put forward by Fota were discussed, however, its method of reducing overall spending with a number of schemes would be ineffective at preventing better resourced teams from outspending competitors, the FIA added. Brawn GP, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber and Toyota have all been given a deadline of this Friday to sign up to the budget cap or risk being replaced by five other teams.Jensen Button is heavily favoured at most bookies to win this year's World Championship. William Hill (Go to William Hill ») currently has him at 2/1 to secure the trophy at the Singapore GP in September. Punters can find odds that do not include the Englishman, with Sebastian Vettel offered at 5/4 with Bet365 (Go to Bet365 »).
