Cavendish makes it two

Mark Cavendish has won his second consecutive stage tour win in as many days as he retains the green jersey at this year's Tour de France. Cavendish, who is a 2/5 favourite with bookmaker Betfred (Go to Betfred ») to come first in the points classification, claimed the 196.5km stage three from Marseille to La Grande-Motte yesterday. The British cyclist was given a vital lead out by other members of Team Columbia who stepped up the pace, which allowed a 27-rider cluster to break away from the remainder of the field. He said: "I'm just taking the victory for the team. The small group was caused by my team riding 100 per cent."The 24-year-old commended his teammate Mark Renshaw for "launching him perfectly" and also congratulated runner-up Thor Hushovd from Norway as being one of the world's best sprinters. Many of his competitors may have been concerned about the proceeding team time-trial, meaning his side were the only ones "who were willing to take it on", he remarked.Saxo Bank's Fabian Cancellara kept the yellow jersey as overall leader, however Alberto Contador is considered to be most likely to be the outright winner with Skybet (Go to Skybet ») at odds of 5/6.
