Button: Schumacher will be competitive

Formula One World Championship leader Jenson Button has stated that Michael Schumacher will still be competitive, despite coming out of retirement after three years.

Schumacher stopped competing in 2006, but has now returned due to Ferrari driver Felipe Massa being hospitalised by flying debris during the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifiers earlier this week.

Button said the German will remain a challenge, although the 40-year-old faces a no-win situation.

He remarked: "It's an interesting one though, because if he wins people will say they expected him to and if he doesn't they will say he should not have come back."

Calling the seven-time champion "very brave", the Brit acknowledged it was a difficult situation to be in, but admitted it would be "special" to have him racing again.

Button is currently the favourite to win this year's World Championship with William Hill(Go to William Hill ») offering odds at 10/11. Red Bull racer Mark Webber is considered most likely to challenge for the title and is available at 13/5 with Bet365(Go to Bet365 »).
