Horse Racing Betting News - Breeders' Cup Odds Wide Open As Stars Retires

Connections of Sea The Stars have confirmed that the recent Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner is being retired, leaving Rip Van Winkle as the new favourite for next month's Breeders' Cup Classic.

While trainer John Oxx failed to commit to whether the 2,000 Guineas champion will become a stud horse, he did confirm that the horse will run no further races.

"We feel it is unfair to keep him going any further given his unprecedented record of achievement in the last six months," Oxx said.

The decision was made after talks with Sea The Stars' owner Christopher Tsui, he added.

Sea The Stars has romped home first in six Group One contests in his glittering career, including the International Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes, the Epsom Derby and the Eclipse Stakes.
