Waites BDO Darts Favourite As Fitton Fails
Scott Waites is now the favourite to win the BDO World Darts Championship at the bookmakers following a strong 3-0 victory in the first round yesterday. The number two seed was the second best backed player before the event began, but his price has moved in following the elimination of contender Darryl Fitton and poor performances from reigning champion Ted Hankey and last year's finalist Tony O'Shea.
Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») offers odds of 3/1 on Waites taking the title, while 2007 winner Martin Adams - who has yet to play his opener - is 7/2 at Bet365(Go to Bet365 »).
Dave Chisnall, who knocked out Fitton, is the fifth favourite behind O'Shea and Hankey respectively.
Waites has enjoyed an impressive couple of years on the BDO circuit, reaching the quarter finals of the last two World Championships, as well as finishing runner-up in the 2008 World Masters.
He became one of the favourites for this tournament after reaching the final of the Grand Slam of Darts, in which he lost to PDC World Champion Phil Taylor.
