Wakefield have confirmed in a statement that Terry Newton has been suspended by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after failing a drug test. Newton joined the club from the Bradford Bulls during the off-season and was tested as part of pre-season training.
Stan James(Go to Stan James ») currently has the Wildcats at 25/1 to win the Super League this season, while Leeds are currently considered the favourites with William Hill(Go to William Hill ») at 5/4.
The club said in the announcement: "Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that Terry Newton has been provisionally suspended by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a prohibited substance on November 24th 2009."
It added that itself and the hooker will be making no further statement surrounding the issue at this point in time.
The RFL said that it is proud of its current drug-testing scheme and verified that a Wakefield Trinity Wildcats player had failed a drugs test on the date specified.
