Rio Ferdinand To Miss Carling Cup Final
Manchester United will be without Rio Ferdinand for this weekend's Carling Cup final. The defender was set to return from a four-match ban to feature in last night's Premier League match against West Ham.
However, a back injury suffered in training meant he missed out and Sir Alex Ferguson will once again be unable to select the England international, as his side looks to retain the Carling Cup title against Aston Villa.
The holders are odds-on favourites for the encounter - Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») pricing them at 4/11 - but are also likely to be without midfielder Anderson after he suffered a back injury.
Commenting on Ferdinand's situation, Sir Alex said: "When you get these twinges you can't take a chance. He won't be ready for Sunday, so unfortunately for him he'll miss a couple of games, I think."
Aston Villa are rated at 15/8 by 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») to win the Wembley encounter.
