Thomas Will Do Well, Says Davies
Dual-code star Jonathan Davies has backed his fellow countryman Gareth Thomas' decision to switch codes. The former Welsh full-back and captain has left the Cardiff Blues to join the Crusaders, a team that are not fancied to win the league - Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») is offering odds of 11/4 that they will finish bottom.
But Davies, who played league for Widnes in the late 1980s and early 1990s, believes that Thomas has the physicality to deal with the transition.
"He is very strong under the high ball, is an amazing try scorer and can play at wing, centre or full-back and I think he'll prove to be a great asset," he told the BBC's Super League Show.
The only problem he will face, Davies remarked, will be in getting to grips with the pace and nature of the game.
Crusaders are 49/10 to win their first game against St Helens with Betfair(Go to Betfair »).
