Holmes Takes Share Of The Lead In Orlando
JB Holmes has taken a share of the first-round lead in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a result that will see him qualify for the Masters, which starts next month. He is currently 10/1 with Extrabet(Go to Extrabet ») to convert his opening day score into a victory, while Ernie Els remains favourite, with WBX(Go to WBX ») offering odds of 37/5 on him emerging triumphant.
The 27-year-old noted that he had been nervous before he went out as he was not happy with every aspect of his game.
"I hit the ball well. I think I hit 17 greens and I putted pretty well too. I made a couple of long putts and that definitely helped," he added.
Also on top of the leaderboard is Davis Love III, who is in a similar situation to Holmes.
If either manages to win the event, they will move into the world's top 50, the cut-off point for automatic invitation to three of the four majors.
