Martinez sought by Wigan
Wigan Athletic are looking to sign Swansea manager Roberto Martinez after Steve Bruce left the Latics to coach Sunderland yesterday. However, Swans' chairman Huw Jenkins has prevented the north-west side from approaching the Spaniard after being unable to come to agreeable compensation terms. "Ultimately it always comes down to the individual himself about how he feels and what he wants to do with the next step of his career," said Jenkins earlier this week Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that Martinez is his top choice for the position but it has been suggested that the Welsh side are asking for at least £2 million to let him go. Martinez is due to meet with Jenkins to discuss his future with the club at some point this week. Betfair (Go to Betfair ») currently has Wigan at 13/10 to finish in the top six next season. Odds of 9/2 are available from Betfred (Go to Betfred ») to see them get relegated. Burnley remain favourites to go down at 4/6 with Betdaq (Go to Betdaq »).
