James: I hope we don't get rid of more players

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James has revealed fears that the team has offloaded too many good players before the beginning of the season

Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson are two of Pompey's key players that have been sold during the transfer window, with the former moving to Tottenham Hotspur and the latter agreeing a move to Liverpool.

England international James said it was "going to be a hard season" and expressed his hopes that the team does not part with any more squad members.

He remarked: "We are down to the bare bones, with a lot of trialists and young lads in the team," adding, "I trust the people we are going to bring in are going to be of a decent, or even a very good standard."

The Fratton Park-based club is currently one of the favourites to get relegated in the upcoming Premier League season, with William Hill(Go to William Hill ») offering odds of 15/8 on this occurring.

More optimistic bettors can find them at 14/1 with 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») to finish in the top six.
