Zola Will Remain Manager, Says Hammers Owner
Gianfranco Zola has been given a vote of confidence by new co-owner of the club David Sullivan. Alongside partner David Gold, Sullivan took control of 50 per cent of the Upton Park side, but he told Sky Sports News that large-scale changes will not be made to the management team.
Asked whether Zola would remain as coach, the businessman said: "Absolutely. He's categorically staying."
"I'll be sitting down with him to work on transfer targets," he added.
According to Sullivan, who is a self-confessed Hammers fan, Zola may need to bring in some fresh talent if the struggling squad are to remain in the Premier League.
"I don't think [Gold and I would] have bought West Ham if we were not West Ham fans," he joked, noting that the financial standing of the London-based team is a "serious mess".
West Ham are currently just outside the relegation zone because of goal difference, with a number of bookmakers offering them at odds of 7/2 to go down, including Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») and William Hill(Go to William Hill »).
