Tidal Bay suffering ahead of Cheltenham Festival

Doubts have emerged over the participation of Tidal Bay in next month's Cheltenham Festival. The horse is one of the fancied runners in the Ryanair Chase, having claimed the Arkle Trophy by winning it last year. However, trainer Howard Johnson has revealed that a cut suffered on the gelding's recent visit to the Gloucestershire venue is taking longer than anticipated to mend."He's healed up now but it's still a bit tender. His fitness will be fine, it's just the cut that's the problem," said Johnson, adding that "all is not lost yet" because warmer weather will help speed the recovery.Tidal Bay is currently given odds of around 6/1 in online horse racing betting market, making him second favourite behind Voy Por Ustedes for the Ryanair Chase. The runners in the Cheltenham Gold Cup were announced earlier this month, with last year's champion Denman one of the early front-runners alongside Kauto Star.
