Injury strikes Neptune Collonges

Neptune Collonges could be out of racing for as much as a year, it has emerged. The Paul Nicholls-trained grey is thought to have injured a tendon during the Totesport Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival last week.He had been one of the fancied runners, but eventually finished fourth as stablemate Kauto Star won the race. And he may be unable to compete in next year's festival, as a vet's examination has revealed the extent of the damage.Owner John Hales told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We believe it happened in the race, but it didn't show up until a few days after. It might have been the reason why he didn't perform at a normal level."Neptune Collonges had been due to compete in the Guinness Gold Cup at Punchestown next month, having won the race twice before.Kauto Star is early favourite to successfully defend his crown at next year's Cheltenham Festival, with Blue Square offering odds of 7/4.
