Murtagh picks Rip Van Winkle
Three-time Derby winner Johnny Murtagh has decided to partner Rip Van Winkle for Saturday's race at Epsom. Irish trainer Aiden O'Brien has six horses in the race, with Murtagh having the choice of the runners. He decided on Rip Van Winkle for the derby despite the duo finishing the 2,000 Guineas fourth at Newmarket in May.Murtagh has previously described Rip Van Winkle as classy and admitted he has a "soft spot" for the horse. Fame and Glory, the race favourite, will be partnered by Seamus Heffernan. The two were paired for the Derrinstown Derby Trial, which they won by five lengths. Other partnerships include Ryan Moore and Black Bear Island, Colm O'Donaghue atop Golden sword, Richard Hughes with Masterofthehorse and Pat Smullen on Age of Aquarius.Paddy Power currently offers 9/2 on Rip Van Winkle and odds of 7/2 are available for favourite Fame and Glory. Those looking for an outside bet can buy Golden Sword at 37/1 from WBX.
