Soft ground predicted at the Curragh

Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe has said the ground at the Curragh Darley Irish Oaks may be on the soft side this Sunday. Mr Grimthorpe, who manages the horse Midday for owner Khaled Abdullah, implied this could be a good outcome for the filly. He remarked: "I spoke to (general manager) Paul Hensey at the Curragh this morning and they've had quite a bit of rain - it is yielding on the soft side at the moment."While the weather is likely to be good until Saturday, Grimthorpe added, it is unknown whether there is to be more rain in the meantime, although either way it will be acceptable. Midday will race fellow Epsom Derby runner Sariska, the horses having come second and first respectively in the Classic. Blue Square (Go to Blue Square ») has Sariska as the favourite this weekend and offers odds of 5/4 on the Epsom winner. Midday can be bought at 5/2 with bookmaker Bet365 (Go to Bet365 »).
