Nunthorpe a no-go for Chevalier
Despite winning six out of seven starts, Monsieur Chevalier is unlikely to race at the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York later this month. The Richard Hannon-trained two-year-old won the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood last week, which set rumours flying that he could appear against older horses in the Nunthorpe at Knavesmire.
Hannon dismissed this, however, telling his website that while jockey Richard Hughes said the five furlong division is "weak" and the chance of a "generous" weight allowance could swing it, the horse would have to be supplemented.
He remarked: "I have never been a fan of supplementing horses and £20,000 is a lot of money."
The colt is already entered for the Gimcrack and is more likely to make an appearance there, Hannon added.
With Monsieur Chevalier out of the runnings, Fleeting Spirit is the favourite to win the Nunthorpe, with Bet365(Go to Bet365 ») offering odds of 7/4.
William Hill(Go to William Hill ») has Look Busy as an outside bet at 16/1.
