Yeats and Rip Van Winkle doubts

Yeats and Rip Van Winkle could both miss out on September races, according to the duo's trainer.

Aiden O'Brien stated that Ballydoyle's champion Yeats' shot at the Irish St Leger on September 12th could be in jeopardy because of ground conditions and notoriously injury-prone Rip Van Winkle might not be physically fit for the Royal Ascot Queen Elizabeth Stakes II (QEII) later in the month.

Commenting on Yeats, he told At The Races: "He's in good order and if we can run him at all we'd love to. If it was soft it would be safe but might not be his ideal ground."

Yeats, a 25/1 shot at Victor Chandler(Go to VCBet ») to win next month's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, landed a fourth Gold Cup at Ascot in June.

Rip Van Winkle's chances of appearing at the QEII are "touch and go", O'Brien added, as the horse is not fully fit.

Early odds for the Breeders Cup Classic has Rip Van Winkle at 6/1 with Betfred(Go to Betfred »).
