Beacon Lodge To Avoid QEII Betting
Those looking to bet on Beacon Lodge in the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Stakes at Royal Ascot near the end of the month may be disappointed to hear that the colt is likely to miss the race. According to trainer Clive Cox, the horse could forgo the September 26th contest in favour of better conditions at the Group Two Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein in France.
He remarked: "I would say he would be more likely to go to France on the Saturday before Arc day where he would possibly get a bit easier ground."
The four-year-old ran against Delegator last month at Goodwood, finishing fourth behind the Godolphin horse.
Cox noted Beacon Lodge's "solid performance", but admitted the soft ground in France will be more favourable.
Delegator is set to run in the QEII and is offered at 9/4 with Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power »), while Stan James(Go to Stan James ») considers Rip Van Winkle the race favourite at 11/10.
