Horse Racing Betting News - Goldikova Fit For Breeders' Cup
Last year's Breeders' Cup Mile champion Goldikova is set to return to defend her title at Santa Anita next month, despite a poor run at Longchamp at the weekend, it has been revealed. Trained by Freddie Head, the horse finished third behind Varenar in the Group One Prix de la Foret on Saturday (October 3rd), leading her participation in the California race to be doubted.
"She is fine and has come out of the race well," said Head, adding: "We have checked her over and nothing is wrong - she is fine."
According to the trainer, the filly's performance in France was just an anomaly in which she got "drawn out wide" making it difficult to pull out in front.
Jockey Olivier Peslier decided to push the horse for the win, which in hindsight was probably a bad decision, Head added.
Goldikova is currently considered the favourite with Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») offering odds of 4/6 on the horse retaining her crown.
Aidan O'Brien's Mastercraftsman is also in the running at 4/1 with Betfred(Go to Betfred »).
