Horse Racing Betting - Murtagh Backs Rip For Breeders' Cup
Rip Van Winkle has a good chance of winning the Breeders' Cup Classic in Santa Anita on Saturday (November 7th) because of his suitability to the ground, Johnny Murtagh has claimed. The jockey, who will ride the Queen Elizabeth Stakes II victor for the race, admitted he has a soft spot for the horse.
"The lad who rides him out says he is really bouncing and I have always thought the surface would suit him with the way he moves across the ground," he remarked.
According to the Irishman, the length of the track will also be beneficial, with a mile and half being "tailor-made" for the Sussex Stakes champion.
Commenting on another of the Classic runners, Murtagh went on to say Zenyatta is shaping up to be a contender, but noted she was yet to face competition of Rip Van Winkle's calibre.
Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power ») currently has Van Winkle as the race favourite for tomorrow and is offering odds of 7/4 on him romping home first.
Zenyatta is also considered a candidate at 3/1 with Coral(Go to Coral »).
