Johnson Hoping To Turn The Tide
Trainer Howard Johnson has stated that he is confused as to why Tidal Bay has failed to impress over the last 12 months. Having won the Arkle Trophy last year by a large margin, high hopes had been given for the eight-year-old, but he has not landed a victory since.
Commenting on one of the horse's more recent outings, an error-ridden fourth-place performance at Huntingdon, Johnson said the mistakes were costly.
He remarked: "I've had all the checks done, a heart monitor and everything and it is absolutely perfect but he's been wobbling after a race."
Describing Tidal Bay as a "headscratcher", the handler noted that he is likely to race the animal at Cheltenham in January.
He seems fine in terms of health, Johnson added, noting that it may just be that he peaked when he secured the Arkle.
Looking ahead to Cheltenham, Tidal Bay is listed at odds of 151/1 with Betfair(Go to Betfair ») to win the World Hurdle event, while Bet365(Go to Bet365 ») considers Big Buck a 5/6 favourite.
