Injury Threatens Jan Vermeer's 2000 Guineas Participation
It is still not clear whether Jan Vermeer will run in this year's 2000 Guineas as he returns from injury. The horse is 14/1 with Totesport(Go to Totesport ») and 16/1 with 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») to win the race, but his trainer Aidan O'Brien is still unsure if he will make the starting line at Newmarket on May 1st, racingpost.com reports.
Winner of the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint Cloud back in November, the news provider noted that the animal suffered a slight setback in training and has been put on the easy list for the time being.
O'Brien told the information outlet: "We don't know whether he'll make the Guineas. He is back in light work and only time will tell if he catches up in time."
The current favourite for the race is St Nicholas Abbey - also trained by O'Brien - with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports ») offering odds of 2/1 that the mount will take the title.
