Carberry Seeking To Become First Female National Winner

Nina Carberry will look to become the first woman to win the Grand National when she takes her mount on Character Building.

The bookmakers have the animal well-fancied, with Totesport(Go to Totesport ») and Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power ») both offering odds of 16/1 on it emerging victorious.

Character Building - trained by John Quinn - was bought by Patricia Thompson earlier in the week and she announced that she did not want Jamie Codd to race.

"Mrs Thompson said she was a huge fan of Nina and said she would like her to ride the horse if Tony McCoy, Ruby Walsh or a top jockey was not available," Quinn said.

He added she then asked him to book the Irishwoman for the event and Carberry was said to be delighted to comply, as she looks to improve on her ninth place finish in Forest Gunner in 2006.

Big Fella Thanks is still the favourite for the Aintree encounter, with Extrabet(Go to Extrabet ») having the charge at 17/2.
